Deion Lemelle, MPP, is a civic strategist, voice actor, and the founder of Future in Common. His work lives at the intersection of artificial intelligence, democracy, and economic inclusion.
With experience spanning federal policy, grassroots organizing, and strategic communications, Deion helps public leaders and mission-driven orgs craft values-based responses to complex challenges. His voice—both literally and politically—brings clarity, warmth, and story to the AI era.

Deion Lemelle, MPP, is a public policy strategist and civic innovator with over a decade of experience spanning federal government, higher education, nonprofit leadership, and political campaigns. He is the founder of Future in Common, a mission-driven initiative building tools, training, and policy solutions for an equitable AI-powered future. Through this platform, he leads The United States of AI—a widely read blog and forthcoming book series proposing bold, worker-centered federal policy strategies to address the civic and economic disruptions posed by artificial intelligence.
Deion previously served at the U.S. Department of Energy, where he worked on cross-agency operational initiatives. He also held roles as Assistant Director at the University of Chicago Center for Effective Government and as Special Assistant and Engagement Manager at Win the Era. On Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign, he served as both Principal Scheduler and Principal Travel Manager, supporting senior leadership across the campaign’s national operations.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Deion served as a Student Naval Aviator until his medical disqualification from flight training in 2017. He holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and a BS in Aerospace Science Engineering from Tuskegee University. He is also an FAA-certified private pilot, advanced ground instructor, and instrument ground instructor.
